John Nestor laid to rest

Veteran sports administrator and public relations practitioner John Emanuel Nestor M.S. was laid to rest yesterday on what would have been his 94th birth anniversary following a funeral service at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Brickdam and internment at the Le Repentir Cemetery.

The funeral service was attended by several sports administrators, former colleagues of Banks DIH Ltd, friends and relatives including several of his children  who returned from overseas.

Among those in attendance were Director of Sport Neil Kumar, President of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU)  and General Secretary of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Noel Adonis, Operations Director of Banks DIH Ltd. Michael Perreira and close friends Jerry Gouveia and Gussy Perreira.

The eulogy was read by Henry Mc Kinnon while Nestor’s daughter Petal, offered a “thank you.”
Nestor, who died on July 18 at the age of 93 years, represented Guyana at football and volleyball and was a gifted ball player who also took part in lawn tennis, cricket, billiards, darts, table tennis  and athletics.

He once served on the National Sports Council and headed several sports associations including volleyball and billiards.
Nestor was awarded one of Guyana ’s National Award, the Medal of Service (M.S.) in 1996 for his contribution to sports regionally and nationally.
