Over 50 horses will take to the track on Sunday when the Port Mourant Turf Club stages its August month one-day meet.

According to an official of the club, over two-and-one-half million dollars in prize money and trophies will be up for grabs.

The meet  will see races being run off in the C-Class and lower; three-year-olds Guyana and West Indian bred, two-year-olds Guyana and West Indian bred, F-class and lower, H-class and lower, I-class and lower; J and K-class and L-class and lower.

The richest race of the meet will be the C-Class and lower which has at stake is $300,000 for the winner with the second, third and fourth-placed finishers receiving $150,000, $75,000 and $37,000 respectively.

In the three year old Guyanese and West Indian bred run over one mile the prizes  are worth $200,000 (first) $100,000 (second) $50,000 (third) and $25,000 (fourth).

In the two-year-old Guyanese and West Indian bred run over five furlongs the first prize is $150,000, with $80,000; $40,000 and $20,000 going to the next three finishers.

The remaining money will be split up between the winners and placers in the other five races.

According to an official of the club, the management committee is working overtime to make sure that the turf is in prime condition for the races as the ground and its surroundings are being spruced up for the large crowd that is expected.

Among the horses expected are Isle Be True, Little Pani, Dinner Silence, Great Memories, Spin and Squeeze, Lauri in Flight, Baby Boy, The Gap, Jumbo Joy, Tropical Passion, Luvu D and others.
