Simone wins Rodrigues Memorial cycle race

Tony Simone held off a spirited field to capture the third Reagan Rodrigues Memorial cycle road race from Wales Police Station on the West Bank of Demerara to Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo and back.
The race, which attracted over 30 riders in four categories, saw Simone coming out victorious after a tussle for the leadership spot in the over 25-mile race.

Alonzo Greaves was the runner-up in his first local race after being forced to drop out of the Jhont Memorial One Day Meet in Anguilla recently after his chain burst whilst he was leading.
In third place was Darren Allen followed by Ian Jackson, Daniel Ramchurejee and Christopher Persaud.

In the junior category Ramchurejee and Persaud took the top two places respectively.
In the veterans’ category, Gary Benjamin rolled back the years capturing first place followed by Kennard Lovell and Linden Blackman, in that order.
And, in the Upright section, Dexter Wilson rode home first followed by Garfield Lorrimer and Kester Croal.

Following the completion of the race trophies and hampers were presented by the widow of the late Rodrigues and her son to the winners in the respective divisions.
Of the 30 cyclists who started the race 22 completed the distance.
The race was organized by national cycling coach Hassan Mohammed M.S under the auspices of the Guyana Cycling Federation.
