Guyana National Industrial Corporation’s (GNIC) wicketkeeper/batsman Dexter Solomon has been chosen to lead Georgetown in the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) under-17 inter- association two-day competition that is set to commence tomorrow.

After the scheduled trial match organized by the Georgetown Cricket Associa-tion (GCA) meandered out into a tame draw, the GCA selection panel comprising vice president Alfred Mentore, Shawn Messiah, Lyndon Wilson and Roderick Lovell selected a 14-man squad that will represent Georgetown in the competition.

Solomon will have as his deputy, Georgetown Cricket Club’s (GCC) Carlos La Rose, and together they can depend on Kumar Ramkissoon, Quincy Ovid, Rajiv Singh, Dellon Fernandes and Dayanand Roopnarine to carry not only the batting, but Georgetown to victory in the tournament.

The bowling rests on the shoulders of fast bowlers Seon Daniels, left armer Andre Stoll and Kevin Ogle, while national under-15 left arm spinner Raj Nanan and Amir Khan along with Ghandi Youth Organization’s Ricardo Devers and Malteenoes Sports Club’s Shaquille Williams will take charge of the spin department.

Notable absentee from the squad is national under-15 captain Kwame Crosse who along with Azad Mohammed, Joshua Lawrie, Safraz Esau, Steven Sampson and Clevon Hyman has been placed on the standby list.

The 14-man squad reads; Dexter Solomon (captain), Carlos La Rose, Kumar Ramkissoon, Quincy Ovid, Rajiv Singh, Dellon Fernandes, Dayanand Roopnarine, Ricardo Devers, Amir Khan, Raj Nanan, Shaquille Williams, Seon Daniels, Kevin Ogle and Andre Stoll.

Meanwhile, La Rose’ XI and Solomon’s XI played to a tame draw in the one off trial match organized by the GCA to select their team.

Being asked to take first strike on the first day, La Rose’s XI were bowled out for 175 with Fernandes leading the way with 32 (2×4; 1×6). He received support from Singh (25; 1×4) Lawrie and La Rose 20 each and Crosse 17. Devers took 5-21 and along with Daniels (3-33) and Clairmonte Duesbury 2-21 did the damage with the ball for Solomon’s XI.
When they took to the crease, Solomon’s XI found the bowling of Ogle who took 5-21 too much to handle and folded for 118 despite a 63 runs fourth wicket partnership between Roopnarine (41; 5×4) and Ovid (27; 3×4).

The two came together with their team precariously placed on 15-3 at the end of the first day, and although the entire pre-lunch session was lost due to early morning rain which left some parts of the outfield soggy, they found the bowling of Ogle (5-21) and Williams (3-25) and Khan (2-9) too much to handle.
