Just the point I was making only a few days ago, sadly it was edited. Friends and members of the club from time to time try to sneak overaged and over classed horses in races they don't belong. And I dare say they succeed most of the time. I am happy that owners stood up for their right this time and were successful. I was reliably informed that the trainer of those horses protested against, is a senior member of the club. These horses names were listed on the programme days before the races. So it was not a case where they just showed up and try to do this. The officials had to know about this days before. There was an agreement by the Racing Authority many years ago that horses from the US will not be classified lower than C class, and those from Trinidad not lower than G class. In this way the locally bred horses (being half bred or native stock) can be in a lower class race where they have a chance to win. I sincerely hope, for the sake of horse racing that the Racing Authority will step up and introduce some professionality in the administration of the sport. For too long it has been run like gymkhanna.
