- but no place for King, McGarrell and Christian
The Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) senior selection panel yesterday named a provisional thirty-two member squad to contest the El Dorado Inter-County 50-overs competition.

The squad which contains eleven members from the squad that lifted the cup last year will be trimmed after the completion of the trials set for September 3rd .

The eleven players returning include captain Travis Dowlin, West Indies vice-captain Ramnaresh Sarwan, new West Indies middle order batsman Leon Johnson, Stanford 20/20 selectee Lennox Cush, Christopher Barnwell, Deon Ferrier, Joseph Perry, Orin Forde, Reon Griffith, Sauid Drepaul and Zaheer Mohammed. However, no place could be found for wicketkeeper Derwin Christian, dependable lower order batsman and spinner Neil McGarrell and former West Indies pacer Reon King.

The selectors though made some surprise selections in Totaram Bishun, Vishnu Ramjit and Ravi Sarwan, the younger brother of Ramnaresh Sarwan.

Also called up are Avinash Sookdeo, Chien Gittens, Clinton Collins, Dion Carew, Harrinarine Hira, Imran Hassan, Jamal Hinkson, Jeremiah Harris, Krishnan and Surujpaul Deosarran, Kwesi Nedd, Maxwell Fraser, Rajendra Chandrika, Raul Brown, Shemroy Barrington, Steven Jacobs and Vishal Singh who is at present playing in his debut season in England.

The competition is scheduled to be bowled off on September 27. The first match in the competition will see Demerara opposing Berbice at the Blairmont Community Centre ground.
