Mackeson, a product of Ansa McAL, officially took over the sponsorship from Bakewell and over $800,000 is expected to be pumped into the League.

At today’s  presentation Ansa McAL’s  local manager Troy Cadogan said that “The league will consist of the first division teams on the East Coast,” and the prize money to be distributed will be the first prize of $100,000 cash and $150,000 in uniforms.

The second prize will be $75,000 cash and five balls, making a total value of  $105,000 while the third prize will be a package worth $800,000.

Cadogan added that “now that Ansa McAL is based on the East Coast it is only natural that they take care of their neighbours here.”

President of the East Coast  Demerara Football Asso-ciation (ECDFA) Aubrey Hutson said that they are very grateful for the sponsorship as it will showcase East Coast football.

Hutson said further “that from the sweet 16 football competition recently held everyone can see what can be done on the East Coast for football.” He noted that the sport is continuously being played at a high level in the area and it is expected that this sponsorship  will keep the East Coast players at home.

Meanwhile commenting on the junior players, Huston pointed out that six to seven juniors have made it to the national squad (juniors) and this is a proud accomplishment. The competition which will be played in a round robin format will have nine clubs participating and the team with the most points at the end will be declared winners.

The competition will kick off next Thursday under floodlights at the Beterverwagting ground where a double header is slated. First up will be Buxton United versus Black Stallion and then in the feature match of the night Plaisance will tackle Anns Grove.

Games will also be played at Plaisance, Buxton and Victoria.
