The Georgetown Football Association (GFA) organized Chubby under-14 championship will conclude today with the final match of the tournament between Beacons and Fruta Conquerors at the Tucville Playfield commencing at 10:30hrs.

Before that, however, Thomas United and Strike Again football clubs will contest the third place play-off from 9:00hrs.

In the semi-final round of the tournament, Fruta Conquerors bulldozed their way into the final by thrashing GFC 7 – 0 last Saturday at the Tucville ground.

The second semi-final saw Beacons making their way into the final by way of a penalty shootout which they won 3 – 0 against Thomas United.

The tournament began on August 18 where 12 teams embarked on the quest to become the 2008 Chubby under-14 champions.

Teams were divided into two groups and played the other once.

Defending champions Beacons shared the number one post in group A with Fruta Conquerors on 13 points after both teams acquired four victories and a draw while Georgetown Football Club (GFC) (4th) and Santos FC (5th) obtained seven and six points respectively.

Thomas United led group B with 11 points from five matches (3 wins, 2 draws) ahead of Strike Again who had 10 points (3 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw) while First Assembly ended in third place with six points.

Renaissance and Flamingo tied for fourth with five points each.

Sunburst Camptown, Rhythm Squad, Pele and Flamingo were eliminated after the conclusion of the preliminary rounds.

Prizes will be awarded to the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer and Most Disciplined Team.

Added to the Chubby under-14 trophy, each player from the winning team will receive one Chubby haversack and 12 exercise books.
