The DeSinco Group of Companies which has been associated with sponsoring an annual cycle race since 1999 handed over a $74,000 cheque to National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohammed for the ninth edition of the race which will wheel-off on Saturday, September 13 in the National Park.

And this year the company has introduced Milkaut, an Argentine brand of milk, to Guyana and will act as co-sponsors of the tournament.

Brand Manager Padma Prashad who handed over the cheque to Mohammed said that the company is pleased to be associated with this annual cycling meet.

She announced that every participant in the meet will have the privilege of taking home a box of the milk to sample.  Prashad said too that next year for the tenth anniversary the company would put up an even larger sum for the races.

increase

Mohammed who received the $74,000 cheque said that the money will go towards awarding the winners of the prime (pronounced ‘preem’) points in the seniors race.  And overall all cyclists in winners row in the various categories will receive trophies, compliments of DeSinco and Milkaut.

He added that the National Park circuit should see stiffer competition, especially among the seniors, noting the increase by DeSinco in the winnings.

Meanwhile,  Mohammed announced that the cycling calendar following the DeSinco meet on September 13 would see four other weekends of exciting races: The Laparkan annual will be run off the following weekend on Saturday 20, followed by the National Sports Commission meet on September 27, the Hand in Hand races on Saturday, October 4 and the grand finale, the annual track meet at  Everest Ground.
