– GFC and Alpha United also advance
Manessa Primo produced another good performance for Fruta Conquerors who made their way into the semi-final stage of the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) DeSinco Under-18 football tournament when they defeated Thomas United 8-1 at the Tucville Playfield yesterday.
Alpha United and the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) also reached the semi-finals after defeating Flamingo and BK International Western Tigers respectively at the same venue.
Fruta Conquerors conceded only one goal, scored by Travis Savory in the 30th minute, while banging in eight goals. Primo registered two first-half goals (23rd and 35th) then returned in the second half to complete first his hat-trick and then his helmet-trick in the 38th and 45th minutes.Of those four goals scored, the best just might have been Primo’s hat-trick goal where he challenged the Thomas United goalkeeper head on and out dribbled him before thumping the ball past the goal line.The most unusual goal also came from Primo who sent a long ball from the left flank two yards away from the corner touch line which went over the goal keeper’s head and buried itself in the bottom right corner of the goal.
Paul Bobb, who registered a double (29th and 49th), Earl McKay (64th) and Christopher Doris (67th) who scored from a penalty kick given after Thomas United’s Jamaal Scott was blown for handling in the 18-yard box also accounted for the other four goals for Conquerors. Prior to the Conquerors/Thomas United encounter, Alpha United blasted the wings off of Flamingo for a 3 – 0 final result. Kelwin Chapman was successful in the 13th and 26th minutes to mark two bold strikes on the board for Alpha while Anthony Belville’s 15th minute goal for Alpha helped to make matters worse for Flamingo. Alpha’s dynamic forward Andrew Murray jnr., did not complete the entire 70 minutes of play as he attained a red card in the 36th minute and left Alpha to contend the remainder of the match with 10 players.
Soon after the teams were even again at least in numbers as Flamingo’s Roy Samuels also received a red card in the 54th minute.
Over at the GFC ground, the home team secured a victory against BK Int’l Western Tigers. Sherwin Barrow in the fourth, Javin Oslyn in the 19th and Gavin Whyte in the 70th were the successful goal scorers for GFC while Colin Nelson scored in the 43rd for Western.
