GABA forced to cancel B. L Crombie memorial tourney

The Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has been forced to cancel the staging of the annual B. L Crombie memorial amateur boxing tournament because of the unavailability of the National Gymnasium, a release from the secretary of the organization Otis Van Lewis stated yesterday.

The tournament was scheduled to start this evening and end on Sunday but “was cancelled because of the unavailability of the National Gymnasium during the said dates,” the release stated.

The GABA, in the release expressed regret over the postponement to the boxing gyms and fans of amateur boxing.

“The executives of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association would like to express its sincere regrets to all of the Amateur Boxing Gyms all of the Amateur Boxing fans and supporters for not being able to run off its annual B.L. Crombie Amateur Boxing tournament,” the release stated, adding that the tournament could not be rescheduled for next month because of GABA’s participating in other tournaments such as the Women’s Pan American Boxing tournament which will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from October 1-8 and the Commonwealth Youth Games scheduled to be held in India from October 12- 22.

However, the country’s Simon Pures will be able to showcase their talents at the Champion-of- Champions tournament set for November 21-23 which will be sponsored by CAMEX LTD. of 125 C Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown.

According to the release some 15 young boxers from Port Kaituma in the North West District are expected to come to Georgetown to participate for the first time at this level of their amateur boxing careers.
