Lewis says doctor advises at least 10 days rest

Former World Boxing Association welterweight champion Andrew `Sixhead’ Lewis says he has been advised to rest for at least 10 days by his doctor.

Lewis speaking to Stabroek Sport on the postponement of his bout with Howard ~Battersea Bomber’ Eastman told this newspaper yesterday that the doctor has advised him to give the shoulder at least a 10 day rest period for it to recover.

He added that though the shoulder was still paining him, he still has 21 days to get himself together before entering the ring.

”I could have fought before the end of the 21 days but the doctor told me I had to rest so I’ll just wait and get back to training as usual.”

Boxing fans who were eagerly awaiting the bout between the two former world-rated boxers will have to wait a little longer than expected for the ‘Perfect Storm’ as it has been dubbed by veteran promoter Odinga Lumumba.

The two Guyanese boxers were set to clash on Saturday at the Providence National Stadium but instead will collide on October 25 due to a muscle strain Lewis suffered on the left shoulder earlier in the week.

The card is being promoted by Lumumba, head of Mc Neal Enterprises in collaboration with Stanford Solomon.

The rescheduled card will see another former world rater in USA-based Guyanese Raul Frank against Winston Pompey, Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry and Orlan ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers, Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore versus an unannounced challenger and Veronica Blackman taking on Sharon Yarde.
