Lionel Baker lands Leicestershire contract

Lionel Baker, the 24-year-old Leeward Islands fast bowler from Montserrat and member of the West Indies team that reached the final of the 2002 under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, has signed a two-year contract with English county, Leicestershire.

Baker, from Montserrat, is in the Stanford Superstars squad for the planned 20/20 for US$20 million match against England in Antigua November 1. He has a British passport and played for Walmsley in the Birmingham league in the recent season.

“Lionel spent a few years living and going to school in London, where some of his family lives,” Tim Boon, the Leicestershire coach, told the England Cricket Board (ECB) website. “He came over and netted with us in the summer, and impressed us. He’s very keen to play for Leicestershire.” (TC).
