WICB meet today to discuss Stanford 20/20 ruling

President of the Guyana Cricket Board Chetram Singh left Guyana yesterday for St Lucia to attend a meeting of the West Indies Cricket Board today.

Singh told Stabroek Sports yesterday that the meeting will deal mainly with the outcome of the decision by the London Court of International Arbitration (LICA) which ruled in favour of its main sponsor telecommunications giants Digel.

On Tuesday, LICA re-leased its ruling which upheld Digicel’s claim that the sanctioning of the US$20m match between a Stanford Super-stars team and an England team compromised the exclusive rights granted to Digicel.

Singh said that the outcome of that decision would be the main topic for discussion at the meeting but said he also expected the issue of which country would be staging the regional limited-overs competition later this year to come up.

The ruling by LICA has thrown the lucrative Stanford 20/20 match  in doubt and Chief Executive Officer of the WICB, Dr. Donald Peters had said following the ruling….”At this point we are trying to evaluate what the terms of the ruling are.”
