It was two days of electrifying performances from schools in the mining town of Linden, when the Ministry of Education held their annual Inter Primary and Secondary schools athletics championships at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.

Both days (Thursday and Friday) featured athletes who would have excelled in their respective schools inter house championships, but the talent featured on the days showed that athletes from around the country will have to be at their best when the National Schools championships are held sometime in November.

On Thursday when the Inter Primary schools championship was contested, the Amelia’s Primary school dethroned defending champions Regmar Primary by amassing 314 ½ points to the former champions total of 307 points.

The following day’s excitement came in the Inter-secondary schools championship which saw a high level of rivalry between eventual champions Mackenzie High (730)and Christianburg Wismar Secondary (670 ½) points respectively.

Third place went to Wisburg Secondary who totalled 584 points, followed by New Silvercity Secondary with 545, Wisburg Annex 338 ½ , Linden Foundation Secondary 294 ½ , Linden Technical Institute 160 and Linden Business Institute in the rear with 40 points.

The Ministry will be running off their Champion of Champions meet next Wednesday and Thursday at the same venue. This will be used as a yard stick to select athletes for the upcoming National Schools Swimming, cycling and Track and field championships which will also be held in Linden.
