Guyana’s national Under 21 hockey team participating at the this year’s Junior Pan-American tournament in Trinidad and Tobago was handed a 15-0 thrashing by power houses Canada in their opening match on Friday.

It was not the start the Guyanese wanted but according to reports coming out of Trinidad, they were no match for the Canadians.

Before the Guyanese departed they participated in the Banks DIH night hockey tourney where they were beaten in similar fashion by the local clubs.

They were down to play Mexico yesterday.
The Mexicans, who defeated Brazil 8-0 in their first match of the tournament, are seeking to continue their good start.

The other winners on the opening day included Chile who defeated Barbados 6-0; Trinidad and Tobago who got the better of Puerto Rico 3-1 and Argentina, who whipped Jamaica 15-0.
Tomorrow the young Guyanese will meet Chile. They are grouped with Barbados, Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Canada in the 11-team tournament. (Rawle Toney)
