DCC/Young Warriors clash under lights

Demerara champions Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and their Berbice counterparts Young Warriors will clash under the lights at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, in the final of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Neal and Massy sponsored limited overs competition today.

DCC advanced to the final of the competition that was won by Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) last year when they defeated South Essequibo by six wickets  while Young Warriors defeated Mavericks Cricket Club of West Demerara by 134 runs in their semi-final encounters respectively, thus today’s encounter which will be the first club final to be played under lights.

DCC will be looking to Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) Sixes MVP and national all rounder 21-year-old Christopher Barnwell along with his national teammates in skipper Darwin Christian and fast bowler Trevon Garraway to carry the fight to their Ancient County counterparts when the umpires call play at 16:00hrs.
Able support will be forthcoming from national under-19 opener Trevon Griffith, the hard hitting Jamal Hinckson, Dennis Squires, Kester Harcourt and former national off spinner Garvin Nedd while their bowling will rest on the shoulders of Barnwell, Garraway, Squires, Nedd, Harcourt and to a lesser extent Griffith to restrict the strong batting lineup of the Berbice champions.

On the other side of the field, Young Warriors can rely on national middle order batsman Gajanand Singh, former West Indies under-19 opener Richard Ramdeen along with Farouk Hussain who can be a handful on his day.

Add Paul Wintz, Ishwar Singh, Balram Samaroo and fast bowler Kwesi Maltay to the fray and the Demerara champions can look forward to a tough night in the field at Guyana’s best cricket venue.

National under-19 coach Hubern Evans, Wintz, Maltay, Hussain, Samaroo and Gajanand Singh are all capable bowlers who can be expected to restrict the DCC batting lineup and take the trophy back to the Ancient County.
