Dowlin tipped to skipper regional one-day squad

The national cricket selectors have included six new faces in a 14-member squad named to contest this year’s regional one-day competition which commences Thursday at three venues.
The new faces  are Rajendra Chandrika, Gajanand Singh, Steven Jacobs, Chris Barnwell, Trevon Garraway and Brandon Bess.

The national selectors  were unable to call upon the services of Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sewnarine Chattergoon, and Leon Johnson who will be away on West Indies duties while Stanford 20/20 player Lennox Cush along with opening bowler  Esuan Crandon are injured.
Though this will be their first taste of regional one-day competitions, the six players have played at Guyana or the West Indies at one level or the other.

Garray is probably the most experienced after representing Guyana  in the regional four-day competition while Jacobs, Chandrika and Singh have represented the West Indies U-19 team at the ICC Youth World Cup competitions.

Bess is arguably the fastest bowler in the country while Barnwell was a member of the Guyana Stanford 20.20 squad.

Stanford 20/20 player Travis Dowlin is tipped to get the nod of skipper ahead of narsingh Deonarine and Mahendra Nagamootoo, the other most experienced players.

Squad:Christopher Barnwell, Brendon Bess, Rajendra Chandrika, Derwin Christian, Royston Crandon, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin, Deon Ferrier, Assad Fudadin, Trevon Garraway, Steven Jacobs, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Gajanand Singh.
