Namilco Football Festival…

A champion will be crowned tonight

A new champion will be crowned tonight when the four top teams in the Fruta Conquerors organized 2008 Namilco Football Festival Knockout competition go head to head in what is expected to be two nail-biting showdowns at the Providence National Stadium.

Action commences at 6:00pm with the third place showdown before the  much-anticipated final at 8:00pm.

There will also be a PeeWee (Under-11) match between the Fruta Conquerors and Sunburst Camptown in memory of late former national players Neil Hernandes and Dellon Monderson just before the commencement of the final.

The final and third place showdowns were decided last evening at the Tucville playfield when the semi-finals were contested.

The semi games on Friday were rescheduled to yesterday because of frequent power outages in the area that often halted play.

Alpha United and Sunburst Camptown were battling in the curtain raiser of the double header on Friday evening where Alpha led 2 – 1 with 15 minutes to go in the final half.

The 15-match tournament which commenced on October 24 will conclude after the final which is $400,000 for the winners while the runner-up, third and fourth place will claim $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.

Added to that 2J’s General Store has put up a Most Valuable Player (MVP) prize of $30,000 for the final.

An entry fee of $500 will be charged this evening and all proceeds of this tournament will go to the development of the Tucville playfield.
