Patrick Prashad, the most consistent golf player this season, won Saturday’s Dask Enterprise-sponsored Medal Play Golf tournament and looks set to be among the pre-tournament favourites for this weekend’s Guyana Open two-day championships. Playing off a seven handicap, Prashad recorded a Gross 71 to end with a Net 64 to win from a strong field which included reigning Guyana Open men’s champion Canadian-based Guyanese Jai Paul who is already in the country for the prestigious tournament which will be sponsored by local beverage giants Banks DIH Ltd.

Prashad has won more than five tournaments so far this season and looks a leading contender for championship honours.
Kassim Khan, playing off an 11 handicap, finished in the second position after he recorded a Gross 77 to end with a Net 66 while the third place was taken by Imran Khan (handicap five) who had a Gross 73 and a Net 68.

Nearest to the Pin winner was Alfred Mentore while Jai Paul won the prize for the Longest Drive.
Debra Khan, co-owner of Dask Enterprise presented the prizes to the outstanding players at the tournament which attracted 41 players. In brief remarks, Dask Enterprise co-owner Jerome Khan disclosed that his company was very pleased to sponsor the tournament for a third time.

“We have always contributed to charity and sport because we look forward to giving back to the community. We are committed to sponsoring another competition next year and we will be offering more attractive prizes,” Khan said.

Khan who is also the  Captain of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) disclosed that eight foreign players have already arrived for the Guyana Open this weekend, while at least 10 players from neighbouring Suriname were expected by Wednesday.

Players from Trinidad and Tobago, United States and Canada are also due to compete and will be arriving throughout the week. This year’s major sponsor Banks DIH Ltd. is expected to announce their sponsorship at a media briefing during the course of this week, Banks DIH Ltd. Communication manager and Public Relations Officer of the LGC Troy Peters disclosed.

The Guyana Open will take place on Saturday and Sunday with more than 38 attractive prizes up for grabs and the title of Guyana Open champion in both male and female categories.
