- Six Guyanese on the list

The West Indies Rugby Union (WIRU) has shortlisted 24 players to begin training ahead of the International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens World Series which will take place in Hong Kong from March 27-29 next year.

Six Guyanese in Claudius Butts, Theodore Henry, Albert La Rose, Rupert Giles and Kevin Mackenzie are included in the squad.

The players except for Rupert Giles, are no stranger to the West Indies Sevens team with Butts being the captain of last year’s team.
A Select West Indies Team will be chosen to participate in the Carib Beer invitational Sevens tournament in Trinidad and Tobago on December 6-7 and in the Punta Del Este International Sevens Tournament in Uruguay January 3-4, 2009.

Following participation in these two tournaments a 12-man Rugby West Indies Team will be selected for the International Rugby Board Sevens World Series in Hong Kong.
