2008 Smirnoff Guyana Open golf tournament launched

The 2008 Smirnoff Guyana Open golf tournament was officially launched on Wednesday in the boardroom of Banks DIH, Thirst Park.

Some 72 golfers from Guyana, USA, Canada and Suriname will converge at the Lusignan Golf Club this week-end vying for top prizes at the event.

Marketing  and Sales executive at Banks DIH Carlton Joao said that his company was pleased to be associated with the event for the third year and would  be looking forward to seeing some quality golf.

He congratulated the members of the Lusignan Golf Club for making the sport what it was today and pledged his company’s continued support in the development of the game.

President of the club Melvyn Sankies was high in praises for Banks DIH for sponsoring the event a  third time and said that he too was looking forward to a high level of play in the tournament.

The Smirnoff Guyana Open tournament is considered the premier golf tournament in Guyana since it attracts the largest field of competitors.

Trophies and other prizes will be awarded to the top finishers of the event at a presentation ceremony which will be held at the Lusignan Golf Club on Sunday after play concludes.
