The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) senior club championship is set to continue this weekend with a double header this evening at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard-court.

Starting at 6:30pm, Patriots will match skills with Glands Trucking Service Bulls while New Ballers will face the Victory Valley Royals.

Tomorrow evening the Amelia’s Ward Jets are down to play Alleyne’s Retrieve Raiders in the first game while the clash between New Ballers and Wismar Pistons will wrap up the night’s double header.

Meanwhile, according to a release issued by LABA secretary, Joe Chapman, seven of the eight affiliated first division clubs participating will now contest the championships.

Those clubs are Wismar Pistons, Victory Valley Royals, Patriots, New Ballers, Amelia’s Ward Jets, Alleyne’s Retrieve Raiders and Glands Trucking Service Bulls.

According to Chapman, the Kashif and Shanghai Kings withdrew after stating that they wanted assurances that the prize monies will be available at the end of the tournament.

Chapman said that the association had committed itself to providing trophies and cash incentives for the tournament with $100,000 for the winner, $60,000 for the second placed team, while third and will be receiving 40 and $20,000 respectively. There will also be an award for the most valuable Player of the tournament (MVP).

The Kings Chapman said did not show up fir their first scheduled game last Sunday ands subsequently told the association at a meeting held Wednesday that they would not be playing in the tournament.

According to the release a number of individuals have since come forward pledging trophies for the tournament.
