After seven rounds, Ronuel Greenidge and David Khan in the senior category and Taffim Khan in the junior category are the leaders of the National Closed Chess championships which is being run off by the Guyana Chess Federation. Greendige scored two wins over the week-end to move to five points. On Saturday at the Ocean Spray International Hotel, Greenidge defeated veteran player Errol Tiwari who resigned. He also defeated Dennis Dillon while Omar Shariff registered his first win of the tournament against Dillon.

In other results David Khan defeated Frankie Farley while Loris Nathoo and National Champion Kriskal Persaud played to a draw.

Khan had defeated defending champion  Persaud in round five, the match lasting a mere 20 moves while Tiwari defeated Shariff. There were draws for Nathoo and Greenidge, and Farley and Dillon.

In the junior category Taffin Khan brushed aside Kana Khan and Khalid Gajraj on Saturday to remain unbeaten.

The points standing in the senior category are: Greenidge and Khan, five points, Loris Nathoo and Errol Tiwari four-and-a-half points, Persaud four points, Shariff two-and-a-half points, Farley one and a half points and Dillon one point. Juniors:Khan seven points, Cecil Cox five points, Rashad Hussain four points, Saeed Ali and Khalid Gajraj three points and Kana Khan, Sham Khan and Devendra Singh two points.

The tournament continues this Saturday at the Ocean Spray International Hotel and Sunday at the King’s Plaza Hotel.
