Dear Editor,
The outcome of the 2nd 1-day international between WI and Pakistan was very disappointing if you are a WI supporter.
While I understand the need for Chanderpaul and Sarwan to go slow and consolidate after the early fall of wickets and good bowling, this added pressure on the other batsmen.
At the closing stages of the match, ie after getting to 100 and over number 46 onwards, Chanderpaul should have taken the initiative and responsibility of increasing the scoring rate.
He should not have allowed the tail-enders to face so many deliveries. I remember defending Chanderpaul after letters accused him of being selfish. I still do not think he is selfish; he just needs to take more chances at the end stages. I do hope that he keeps up the excellent form.
Yours faithfully,
Raymond Persaud

Chanderpaul was indeed increasing the scoring and would have pulled off a victory is people like Carlton Baugh did not try to out perform him and be a hero. Chanderpaul’s first 50 came off 90-odd deliveries while his second took a mere 50. He was getting it done! All the others needed to do was support him but, instead of protecting their stumps and turning the strike over to him (I’m speaking especially about Baugh here), the tried to hit the ball out of the park.
For anyone to think that Shiv does not know when to increase the scoring rate is ridiculous. Up to the point where baugh started thinking he was a top order batsman, the game was still there for WI to win. I am so much in agrement with the coach, these guys are not ready for top class cricket, everyone knows that WI has been losing games in the dressing rooms and not on the field. With our lack of season players I will take that but I cannot continue to see our batsmen get themselves out so stupidly.
I cannot help but be baffled by this post. Chanderpaul should do this and should do that! Well if i remember correctly west indies is a team comprising of 11 members. Now i really think we should compare west indies with the other teams out there. Now if you check it out properly their tail enders can actually bat and has some sort of common sense. This simply goes to show that cricket in the west indies is dying. May be this comment is not completely correct as i have actually have seen some good prospects, however they just vanish like they were not even there. Maybe the selection commity has a lot to do with its decline too. Chanderpaul is a great player and i cannot take that away from him but he is not the west indies team. Honestly when chanderpaul leaves the cloud which surrounds the west indies will clear and reveal the true state of west indies cricket in the caribbean.
There is only so much,Shiv ,Sarwan,Gayle etc can do…cricket is a team game..a team ,especially in the shorter version of the game , is as strong as its weakest link…I still think we have players with the ability to win games…the selectors are not putting together the right team..
Totally agree with your comment Madan
So what if Chanders has become selfish? There are other current players in the team who are selfish too..like one Carlton Baugh and Xavier Marshall. Lara was more selfish than anyone else. But effective nevertheless. period. By the way, who is this guy Findlay??? Did he have a clue when batting?
Mr. Subryan,
I noticed you’ve been voicing your concerns on issues affecting the Guyanese public. Keep up the good job. It’s nice to know that people do care about what’s happening in Guyana.
Mr. Subryan seriously needs to inhale a hot and spicey brand of Beharry’s curry powder before making any comments on West Indian cricket. I noticed a whole lot of emotional responses to Mr. Raymond’s Persaud logical comments on Chanderpaul.
