Horse Racing billed for Port Mourant on December 7

The Port Mourant Turf Club  on the Corentyne  will come alive on Sunday, December 7 with the staging of their grand end of year horse race meeting from 1:30 pm.
Over seven action packed races are on the cards and over $2.5M will be on offer and already turfites are planning to turn out in their numbers to witness what is expected to be an exciting day of racing.

A  modern starting gate has been built and the facility is currently undergoing massive rehabilitation work while the track is being upgraded and the grandstand  rebuilt.
The C class event which will cover a distance of 1,650 metres is the feature race of the day with $300,000 on offer for the winner.

The Three-Year-Old race for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies has $200,000 on offer and will be run over the same distance while the Two-Year-Old open event will see the horses trying to distance themselves from each other over 1,200 metres for a first prize of $180,000.

The F class event also has $180,000 available for the winner over the same 1,200 metres while  the H class race has $110,000 up for the grabs by the winner and will cover a distance of 1,000 metres.

There are two other exciting races on the day’s card and although lower in class, they will not be lacking in excitement with a first prize of $95,000 for the J an K class horses  while the L and lower event will have a winner’s prize of $70,000.

Already most of the country’s top horses have entered  the event, with entries numbering up to 50 so far and among them are Sequins, Delmur Gold, Ice Fillies, Spin and Squeeze, Miss Republic, Little Pannie, Jumbo Joy, Fresh Prospect, and Annie’s Play Mate.
Other horses such as Laura Lee in Flight, Coconut Boy, Sweet Romance, Prixie Fire, La Bayamosa, Sir Balajee, Sacrifice, Fire Power, The Gap, Pinch De Cash, Bad News, Showing Up and the newly imported horse The Message are all expected to compete.
