‘Walk for Life’ race walking set for this Sunday

The stage is set for the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) ‘Walk for Life’ race walking competition which is set for this Sunday, November 30th and is being held in observance of World AIDS Day.

The race, which will commence at the Prairie International Hotel, Coverden, East Bank Demerara from 06:30 hrs and proceed to the Soesdyke Memorial Church for the finish, will see walkers from all parts of Guyana turning out to stop the winning streak of national race walk champion Rudolph Mitchell who recently chalked up his 82nd win.

According to a press release, trophies, medals and other prizes will be up for grabs in the male and female (senior), juniors, veterans and physically challenged  categories respectively and interested persons are asked to be at the starting line at 06:00hrs.

Meanwhile, CSTC will be holding its final event for the year, entitled ‘Last Lap Race Walk’ on Sunday, December 14th and this event will bring the curtains down on their  2008 season.
The Amelia’s Ward Junction in McKenzie is the starting point for this event from 06:30hrs and race walkers will proceed to Bayrock Recreational Centre in Wisrock, Linden for the finish.

As is customary, trophies, medals and other prizes will be distributed to male and female (seniors), juniors, veterans and physically challenged participants who complete the distance.
Meanwhile, coordinator of the CSTC Olga Harry is appealing to the Government and the business community to assist in making the final two events for the year a successful one by donating prizes such as trophies, medals and other items.

Contributions can be sent to the club’s headquarters which is situated at 222 Back Road, Soesdyke, while monetary donations can be deposited in  the Club’s bank account number 218331151 at Citizens Bank, Camp and Charlotte Streets.
