‘Track on Fire’ rated a success

Some of Guyana’s finest athletes came together last Saturday to play their part in the Beacon Ministries West Demerara Athletics Club (BMWDAC) organized ‘Track on Fire’ athletics at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground.

Athletes representing seven major athletics clubs in Guyana namely Running Brave, Police Sports Club (PSC), Royal Youth Movement, Enmore Athletics Club, Rising Star, Silver Bullets and hosts BMWDAC, competed on an action packed day of events, with medals and trophies up for grabs.

After the opening address by founder of the Beacon Ministries, Archbishop Dr Philbert London who gave the athletes a few words of encouragement, the action got underway.

At the end of the day, Beacon Ministries’ Jamal Holland and Police Sports Club’s (PSC) Ianna Graham were the male and female under-14 champions respectively while Malika Cordis (PSC) was adjudged the under-16 champion.

PSC’s Patrick King and Running Brave’s Cleveland Thomas were crowned as the under-20 and open champions respectively.

The individual prizes were presented to the athletes by Pastor of the Beacon Ministries Anthony Alphonso who later announced that the BMWDAC will be hosting two larger events, which will see clubs from Berbice, Linden and Essequibo, next year  on the West Coast and  West Bank of Demerara.
