Semi-finalists to be known tomorrow

The quarter-final round of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) organized Guinness Greatest of de Street  competition is set to for tomorrow on the National Culture Centre’s tarmac.

Four teams will advance to the semi-final stage of the four-a-side football competition.

Some eight teams advanced to this stage after the first round of the round-robin knockout tournament was contested Friday evening.

Three of the seven matches on Friday ended in a penalty shootout with Hope Street Tiger Bay defeating Festival City 5 – 4 on penalty kicks after being deadlocked at 1 – 1 at the end of regulation time.

Shawn Bishop and Odel Williams scored in the seventh and ninth minutes for Hope Street and Festival City respectively.

Leopold Street then got past West Front Road 4 – 3 in a penalty shootout after being tied one all as the 30 minutes of play ran out.

Omalio Williams and Stellon David scored in the eighth and seventh minutes for Leopold Street and West Front Road respectively.

Plaisance then lost to North Last Entrance on penalties 3 – 4. North’s Troy Kellman recorded a double in the fifth and 16th minutes and Travis `Zorro’ Grant scored in the seventh while Chris Gomes recorded a double in the third and 15th minutes and Wayne Gilkes in the 11th minute for Plaisance.

Albouystown then crushed Queens Street Tiger Bay 4 – 0 with Renault Fraser storming to a hat-trick in the 12th minute after being successful in the third and ninth minutes while Dellon Small contributed a seventh-minute goal.

Alexander Village clipped Alexander Street 1 – 0 compliments of a Leon Yaw 21st minute strike while Globe Yard’s Earl Peters’s fourth minute goal along with Mark Scott’s and Leon Delph’s ninth an 10th minute goals accounted for the goals scored against Sophia.

Deon Allen’s eighth and 21st minute goals proved too much for Norton Street’s Edghil Jackson’s third minute goal leaving East La Penitence  to make their way into the quarterfinal stage.

Tomorrow Globe Yard will oppose Alexander Village at 19:45hrs; East La Penitence will face East Front Road at 20:30 hrs; Leopold Street will clash with Hope Street Tiger Bay from 21:15 hrs and Albouystown will battle with North Last entrance at 22:00hrs.
