Khan, John claim male and female singles titles

Matthew Khan and Michelle John were in ripping form over the weekend claiming titles in their respective categories of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), National Sports Commission (NSC) pre-Christmas tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

John played undefeated throughout the tournament thrashing Natalie Cummings, Adeille Rosheuvel and Chelsea Edghill by 3-1 margins before coming up against former national Champion Jody-Ann Blake in the final.

Blake also won her preliminary matches but lost 7-11, 15-13, 9-11 and 11-13 to John.

Third place went to Cummings while Rosheuvel was fourth and Edghill fifth.

In the men’s singles final, Khan defeated national player Christopher Franklyn in the final winning 7-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5.

Prior to the final, Khan demolished Paul Meusa 9-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-7 and 13-11.

The fourth player in the round robin play off finals was Colin France who forfeited his matches.
