The recent downpour in Georgetown has caused the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Ministry of Education (MoE) Inter Secondary Schools Under-15 limited overs competition to be postponed until next year.

Secretary of the GCB Competitions Committee, Colin Europe told this newspaper yesterday that play was only possible in one of six first round matches scheduled for December 03.

According to Europe the inter-district competition was expected to see Essequibo Islands taking on Essequibo Coast in Wakenaam, West Demerara verses Bartica at Uitvlugt, North Georgetown against East Georgetown at Demerara Cricket Club, South Georgetown battling East Coast Demerara at Lusignan and Corentyne tackling West Berbice in Berbice with New Amsterdam/Canje drawing the bye into the second round.

The competition which was to be played on a knockout basis would have seen seven of the 13 teams making it into round two to be played on December 5 at different grounds, with three progressing via knockout and one by a bye leading into the semi-finals stage that was scheduled for Tuesday December 09 leading to the finals which was slated for today.

Europe added that come 2009 and the new school term as long as the weather holds up the Competitions Committee will be meeting to decide on an alternate schedule to make sure that all the games will be played and an Inter Secondary School U-15 forty over champion crowned.
