Mr. Guyana: ‘I need my airline tickets’

Reigning Mr. Guyana Mark Perry is calling on the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) to supply him with the two airline tickets that he won as part of his Mr. Guyana prize.

The 36-year-old Perry stated that all he has collected since winning the title four months ago was the $30,000 cash prize  while he was given a royal runaround whenever he enquired about his tickets.

“When I won the HRC, the organizers presented all my winnings immediately after without any hiccups. But here I am, four months after winning the Mr. Guyana title and all I have received is the monetary prize of $30,000.”

He added:“I made attempts to collect the tickets and was directed to Caribbean Airlines where I was told that no correspondence was received from the GABBFF indicating that I won same. I then asked the GABBFF for the correspondence but up to now I have not received such.”

Perry, who resided in the USA before returning to Guyana, won the title from  three other competitors in the overall pose down, including veteran Lindy Sharpe, after earlier conquering Oswin Jones in  the heavyweight division.

“As an individual up and coming in the sport and willing to represent the country, one should be given the level of respect that he or she deserves. It is costly to prepare for a tournament irrespective of its magnitude.

“Then you have to go on stage, flex your muscles for the judges and once you come out on top you should be rewarded amicably and speedily. I have won the Mr. Guyana title four months ago and it is appalling to know that I have only received the cash prize,” said Perry.
