The victory Valley Royals and the Wismar Pistons were winners on Saturday last when the Pioneer Constructions/Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) senior club championship at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hardcourt.

Led by a game-high 29 points by Dwayne “Brown Sugar” Roberts, the Royals thrashed the Glans Trucking Service (GTS) Bulls 71-48.

The game was evenly match throughout as the two teams traded baskets but the Bulls held a slim (30-29) points lead at half time.

In the second period, things changed as the Royals, known for their physical style of play upped the tempo with Roberts leading the way. Lawrence De Costa and John Webb each netted 13 points while point-guard Anson Durant chipped in with 11.

Mark Rose with 16 and Kurleigh Austin with 13 points were the primary scorers for the  GTS Bulls.
In the other game of the night, the Wismar Pistons easily defeated Amelia’s Ward Ballers 57-49. The national club champions, Pistons, led in every quarter of the game but the Ballers gave a good account of themselves.

The Piston’s Neville Grenville led all scorers with 20 points while Byron Person and Trevor Profitt scored 13 and 11 points respectively. For the Ballers, Erol Dryden netted 10 points while Rondel Grant chipped in with eight.

The tournament continues on Friday with another double header at the MSC hard Court
