First vice president of the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) Keith Foster was elected president of the entity on Sunday.

Foster had served as first vice president for two years and had been the acting president since September, following the resignation of elected president Jafarally Asrafally due to ill health.

Foster defeated Malcolm Peters, 20-18.

The election was the first to be held amongst the three county boards.

In a brief interview with this newspaper, Foster said he intended to address the issue of players imbibing and abusing drugs head-on.

“The issue as it relates to drugs and alcohol consumption in the game is something that I intend to address seriously in my first term,” he said.

Foster said putting the U-15 cricket programme back in order was also a priority on his agenda.

He said he was hoping to make improvements to the BCBC Annual Awards ceremony after putting the entity back on firm footing.

Foster said the BCBC needs a new image and he intended to enlist new board members David Black, who defeated Carl Moore for the first vice president position, and second and third vice presidents Mark Wright and Ricardo Bachan in helping to achieve this objective.

Meanwhile, Angela Haniff and Carol Nurse stood unopposed for the posts of secretary and assistant secretary respectively. Also, Anil Beharry and Ramesh Munna were returned unopposed as treasurer and assistant treasurer respectively.

The new executive will host its first meeting on Sunday where the agenda includes electing several committees.
