The Guyana Sugar Corpora-tion (GUYSUCO) is to make its surplus molasses available to cattle farmers for free through the National Dairy Development Programme.

A Ministry of Agriculture press release said that this decision was made by Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud as a result of limited storage capacity for the sugar byproduct, so GUYSUCO would inform the NDDP whenever there is a surplus of molasses.

Meanwhile, cattle farmers are asked to contact the NDDP for further information on telephone numbers 220-6556 and 220-2864.

The notification had been sent to all sugar estates, especially in Berbice to facilitate requests by cattle farmers. However, it was observed that cattle farmers were not enthusiastic about the offer and the ministry is now urging them to utilize the opportunity to supplement their animals’ nutrition.
