Four persons  were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) yesterday afternoon after they were seriously injured when a minibus in which they were  travelling toppled while it was trying to overtake a truck along the Belfield,  East Coast Demerara Public Road.

Chenelee Pellew, 23,   of D’Urban Backlands, Roxanne Roberts, Ivan Walton and Somattie Seepersaud were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Pellew sustained major abrasions to her back and her sister told this newspaper that her arm appeared to be broken.

Roberts was awaiting surgery last evening and  Walton was treated and sent away while Seepersaud was awaiting treatment.

Stabroek News understands that the accident occurred at approximately 3:15 pm while the minibus was travelling to Georgetown.

Pellew’s sister related what her injured sister told her.

According to the woman, the minibus which was travelling  along the southern carriageway attempted to overtake a truck but another vehicle, identified as a hearse, forced the bus to swerve to the side of the road. The minibus crashed into the side of the hearse and toppled, landing upside down.

“Now-a-days de East Coast Road getting nuff nuff accident,” the woman said.

Just over two weeks ago three persons were killed and some thirteen others injured in the Beehive collision and less than two weeks ago Ronald Bassoo and Lakeram Seepersaud died from injuries sustained when their pick-up  toppled into a ditch at Vryheid’s Lust.
