A 38-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to commit a felony at a Regent Street store.

Raymond Marks of 75 Duncan Street, Kitty told Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle that he was not stealing any items from the Century Mart store on Regent Street but was going to ‘take’ some copper wire that is on the building. Police prosecutor Sherwin Mathews said that the accused was seen by a security guard on the roof of the store trying to pull items through a hole. An alarm was raised, the police were called and Marks was arrested and charged at the Alberttown Police station.
The virtual complainant Shawn Lawrence said that they would normally lose articles. He said that on the morning following Marks’ arrest he found a “hook” made from a stick and a bit of wire hanging from the hole, which indicated that the man was trying to pull things through the hole using the “hook.” He said that no copper wire was hanging anywhere on the building.
