Some sections of Bushlot, West Coast Berbice were plunged into darkness for several hours on Monday night after a truck travelling with its tray up pulled down wires causing them to burst and catch fire.

Residents were awoken to a loud sound and they saw wires on fire and their houses in darkness.
According to reports personnel from the Guyana Power and Light visited the scene within minutes while wires were scattered all over Bushlot Middle Dam. Power was restored at 6.30 pm on Tuesday. During the fracas, two Guyana Telephone and Telegraph poles were also knocked down.

An eyewitness told Stabroek News that she saw the truck travelling at a fast rate from her bedroom window. She said that after pulling the first set of wires down the truck continued at top speed and pulled down another set of wires, while uprooting two GT&T utility poles. One of those poles fell on the fence of a resident in the area.

Residents told this newspaper that a chase of the truck ensued but had to be called off since the area was too dark.
