Two men and a 15-year-old were remanded yesterday when they appeared before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on a charge of break and enter and larceny.

It is alleged that between May 24 and 27 Euon Cox, 32, called Cowy, Ravi Persaud, 26, and the minor broke into an internet café owned by Bibi Sanichar and stole 2 Dell Computer systems, 2 Stihl chain saws, 1 fax machine, 1 scanner and other items and cash to a total value of $1,470,000.
The minor and Persaud of Diamond Squatting Area and Cox of 53 Houston, East Bank Demerara all pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Prosecutor Denise Griffith told the magistrate that some of the items were recovered after the three defendants took the woman to where they were stored.

Sanichar told the court that the minor and Persaud worked for her. On May 27, Sanichar said she went to her business place at Houston and saw that a hole had been drilled into the concrete wall. She said that she asked Persaud and the minor if they knew anything about the hole and they said no. She then made a report to the police. Sanichar said that she later learnt that a man had a chainsaw to sell and she sent a taxi driver to buy it for her. The man, Cox,  returned with the driver since he did not want to conduct business with him.
After seeing that the chainsaw was hers, Sanichar had the police arrest Cox who called the minor’s name. The minor  then said that Persaud was his accomplice.

The woman said that the young men’s parents offered to pay for the missing items.  The magistrate remanded all three of them until June 10 for report.
