I saw Mr. Jagdeo on TV last night in what can only be described as a comedy show. It was pretty apparent that the questions were given to the hosts, and he was reading from a script, on the global economic conditions.

Amazing how easily Mr. Jagdeo feels that he can criticize anyone and everyone, like he is the only knowledgeable one. Forget about apologizing, how stupid does he feel, as the head of state, and the leading economic expert in Guyana (sarcasm) not to know the laws.

It is precisely due the lack of transparency and accountably, in which the nation's business is being conducted , that the Freedom of Information Bill is neccessary.
And, it is due to these ' under the radar' transactions, that the political administration is unwilling to have enacted, the Freedom of Information Bill.
Mr. Yesu Persaud and Mr. Christopher Ram should be commended for highligting this blatant inconsistency in the conduct of the government .
Authoritarian Governments do not want any type of process, institution or legislation which will hold them accountable to citizens.
Stabroek News is doing a sterling job in informing the public of these matters and, it is obviously not a secret why the government attempted to repress this newspaper, by denying it, government adds for about seventeen months.

gap1 you have seen how arrogant Jagdeo really is. That clearly shows us that many other decisions that has been made in the past were not studied carefully. For example the 16% VAT which is killing the livelihood of poor people was a decision that was arrogantly made by this incompetent government..

Now Jagdeo WHY DON'T YOU TELL US ALL WHAT LAWS WERE BROKEN by this good man. You were arrogant in dismissing him without cause...just like you blasted a well known and respected business man like Yesu Persaud. Shame on you a million times over!

Question...What happens when the govt. breaks the law? Answer...Nothing, Q. what can the opposition parties do? A. Nothing. Q. Can any legal action be brought against the govt for breaking the Law? A. I don't think so.

Here again another crime has been committed on the guyanese people by this govt and to rub salt in our wounds they are going to have the laws amended.

The Owners of QAII ought to be ashamed to still be a part of this illegal deal. In any democratic country, it would be expected from the time this story broke for the company QAII to give a statement as to their position in this illegal deal or the media should have sought one. QAII is also to be blamed for trying to walk all over Guyanese; they too have lawyers who would have worked on this deal. So we need an explanation from them too.

I think this deal between Jagdeo and his friend should be scrapped. I also think the law should not be amended under these circumstances.

WOW.....it's very embarrassing when you are the president and you publicly criticized and insulted someone like Mr. Yesu Persaud for being incorrect when in fact he was correct to begin with. Makes me speculate if our great leader of Guyana knows anything and if there are other laws that have to amended due to unlawful doings.

Daily, the political shenanigans and hypocracy of this government are being unravelled, to the embarrassment of some of their most ardent and ' innocent ' apologists.
It's another episode of 'Jagdeo Gate ' and it is likely not to be the last !
How much more scandal does Jagdeo need before he goes.

Now that the Government has effectively admitted wrong doing, should an apology not be in order?

The Government suddenly realises that the law is not as intended - well by god, were they not looking at the law when all these discussions were taking place? This law has been in place for five years and they now realise it was not as intended!

One of my concerns is that Guyana does have a pharmaceutical industry - Twins, New GPC (which is QII), etc. Concessions in this industry should therefore be available to all concerned. Antibiotics is just a sub-set of the pharmaceutical industry and if any sub-set could get concessions, I guess I could set-up an Aviation and Professional Indemnity Insurance company and get concessions!

I'm sure the law will no have a clause that says ... and others as may from time-to-time be published by Order by the Minister. The PPP want-in, the PPP gets-it.

I think we need to have amendments to the present PR system.

As long as this exists, the incumbent will always exercise its power in this manner.

Without a federal system, we shall be doomed by presidents who invoke historical injustices to justify their own despotism.

Jagdeo opened his mouth and cuss out Mr. Yesu Persaud when he asked the question about tax breaks for other businessmen. He acted like a two year old throwing a tantrum then he had the gall to say that he is controversial and at his age he don't care. Well the Guyanese people care and clearly his gov't broke the law - and like other citizens who break the law - they should be made to face the consequences and not now go and change the law to accommodate their friends.

I hope that all the opposition parties put pressure on this decision, since this is a slap in the face for all Guyana.

I do not believe that the Government can make a law, or amend a law, in an after the fact attempt to legitimize something that was unlawful in the first place. There are "ipso facto" prohibitions in our many of our criminal and civil statutes that argue against the legitimacy of these kinds of actions. It is left to see how the opposition will react to one more in a long line of dictatorial actions of this Government.

Bharrat Jagdeo should apologize to the entire nation for his arrogance. You know, I have never seen such arrogance in a Guyanese leader. In fact, Bharrat Jagdeo has to be among the most arrogant persons I've ever known.

In any case, Guyanese should not accept the idea that Bharrat Jagdeo should be allowed to violate our laws, and then enact new laws that retroactively legalizes his illegal acts.

Wow, Jagdeo got caught with egg on his face. Now who is the one that does not know the tax laws of Guyana?!?! Who is ignorant now?!?!

The deal was done in secrecy to prevent the opposition and businesses to see the wrongs of this regime.

As usual the monarchy can do what it pleases. No one dares question their motives and self interests in their dealings!!!

Guyana remains to worse of each day under this dictatorship!!!

Is this a government that operates by crisis? honestly, I think the people of Guyana should apply pressure on the Government through local and international agencies and seek for change in Government. How much more high handedness can we take? we need accountability. It smells rotten of a friend of the president can attain to such. Some other places this deal would have been squashed.
We need a deliverer.
