The Private Sector Commission (PSC) on Wednesday, noting that  CARIFESTA X is just two months away, urged everyone to give the festival their wholehearted support.

The PSC in a press release called on every Guyanese to “join the Commission in firmly rejecting and completely condemning the mindless and utterly contemptible attempts such as that at the Cultural Centre, to undermine the national effort to make CARIFESTA the huge success it deserves to be.”

Noting that the National Cultural Centre was built some 36 years ago to host the very first CARIFESTA, the PSC said that the “Centre has become a national treasure and the home for the cultural development and expression of our people.”

The PSC said further that it believed that CARIFESTA provides an unmatchable opportunity to showcase the uniqueness of the Guyanese  culture and to share it with her partners in the Caribbean and countries beyond.“

The festival, we believe, presents us with the occasion to display to the world the hospitality and warmness of our people and the beauty of our land in all its elegance and glory. CARIFESTA will be good for tourism, will be good for business and will be good for Guyana,” the private sector body declared.

The PSC concluded that this grand festival affords Guyana the opportunity to put out the welcome mat for the diaspora and new visitors alike and to encourage them to return and invest and share in Guyana’s future development.
