This is why the freedom of information act is important. Minister Ashni Singh should issue a public audited report to the people of Guyana every year dislcosing and justifying which tax and other concessions have been granted to foreign and private companies. A system should be in place for open discussion and approval before any such concessions are granted.

Another point: President jagdeo made a very poor judgement to emotionally respond to Yesu Persaud in the way that he did. But have you noticed how many people trying to advance their political and financial interests by using the case? Surely, this is also disrespectful to Mr. Persaud? Isn't it just sufficient that he did not deserve to be treated in the way that the President treated him? He must now be used as a tool?

Mr. Jagdeo is trying to salvage this blunder?? Maybe he could, if he feels everyone he is talking to is stupid. Who has been running the country since 1992?? Mr. Jagdeo himself has been the President of Guyana since 11 years now or more, so who is responsible if the laws do not cover what is considered pioneering industries in Guyana????? Maybe I am (sarcasm).

I think Mr. Jagdeo is missing the point, it is not that the industries are not considered pioneering, but that he attacked a private sector leader, he was wrong about the tax laws (the very issue he attacked Mr. Persaud about), and he and his government is inefficient, and incompetent, in having to now pass laws that they have assumed were in the laws of Guyana, and granted tax free concessions on.

Another thing, and more importantly, Jagdeo should make sure that he attended the tax seminar which will be held on July 9, so that in future he is aware of the tax law.

why is Jagdeo running to blame the deficiency in the law? Was he not aware of the law? If that is the case the deal he made with QAII is in clear violation of the law and should not be amended after the fact to accommodate his friends. The law and rules should apply to everyone across the board equally. There should not be different sets of laws for different people!
