Passengers travelling to Canada now have a third option with a charter service making its inaugural flight here yesterday afternoon and those on board reported that the flight was a good one.

The Sky Services charter flight on a Boeing 757 was captained by Thomas Kluye.

Sky Services would be travelling to Guyana every Tuesday for the next three months and it should help with the expected influx of persons from Canada for CARIFESTA X next month.

The 203 passengers yesterday were greeted at the airport by the music of the Guyana Prison Service steel pan band and many of them could be heard asking what the celebration was all about as they entered the airport.

“Wait is Mash (Mashramani) or something – why all this music and thing,” one passenger was overheard saying. They were also given plantain and cassava chips along with coconut water and cane juice, much to their delight. “The flight was very good, the landing was expertly done and all went well,” said one happy looking passenger as she struggled with her heavy hand luggage.

According to Indranauth Haralsingh, Director of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism, Industry & Commerce, the new charter flying into Guyana comes at an opportune time even as it follows the introduction here of Delta Airline flights. The new airline joins Zoom and Caribbean Airlines flying to and from Canada. He said there would be some 10 flights into Guyana by the airline and it would wrap up its service on September 2.

On the flight also was Guyana’s Honorary Consul in Toronto, Danny Doobay, who commented that it is always good to hop on a plane in Canada and hop off in Guyana without any stopping.

At the airport too greeting the passengers was the Director of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana, Renata Chuck-A-Sang.
