Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir says the country’s workforce continues to be boosted by contributions from groups such as the Guyana Association of Administrative Professionals (GAAP).

Nadir said GAAP has fulfilled its primary purpose to members to provide training both locally and overseas, in his message to mark its 25th anniversary. According to a Government Information Agency press release the minister said GAAP’s hard work has paid off as within the last five years, in collaboration with the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education it has 100 graduates in the Administrative Professional Secretaries Course. Also, the Association has had 408 graduates over the last five years from its annual seminars which are basically half-day sessions held during the latter part of the year. Additionally, 15 persons have benefited from overseas training over the same period.

In highlighting some of the GAAP’s accomplishments Nadir noted that as a member of the Caribbean Association of Administrative Professionals (CAAP) it hosted the CAAP Council Meeting and Convention in 2006, which saw about 75 members from around the Caribbean visiting Guyana over a one-week period.  In order to improve efficiency in the workforce Nadir urged GAAP members to embrace the ministry’s efforts to tackle HIV/AIDS discrimination in the workplace.
