The passenger who opened the emergency exit of a Delta aircraft when the plane landed from New York on Friday at Timehri has been placed on station bail.

Stabroek News understands that the man was taken to Eve Leary where he was questioned and was placed on bail as the police seek legal advice.

The Guyanese citizen was returning from New York and was travelling first class.

He refused to wait for the plane to open to allow passengers to disembark and instead opened the emergency exit door and went down the emergency slide onto the airport tarmac. He reportedly became agitated after no instructions were being issued to the passengers after the plane landed.

The plane was grounded as a result of the deactivation of the emergency exit and parts and engineers were reportedly flown in to fix it.

Mybe Fineman made him do it, eh Mr Greene

    • jenbri UNITED STATES says:

this is a typical example of guyanese mentality..
he should of charted his own plane if he was a big man.
that is why some of we guyanese do not want to associates ourself with this country?

    • bishnu R CANADA says:

after reading all of the above i wonder if some of you ever travel in a plane.
passengers are advised to remain seated until advised.
I travelled a bit and this never is the case,
as soon as the plane stops 99% of us get up and start to get our hand luggage,
there is no way a flight attendant can control that.
so instead of jailing the man and making an order for him to pay all the expenses/cost and put him on a international no fly list let ’s just blame the airline staff. and let mr. X get lots of liquor and try walking back to the US.

  2. Berkeley Van Bowen CANADA says:

This passenger displayed sheer arrogance by opening the emergency doors while the plane was not yet cleared for exit. His actions jeopardized the safety of hundreds of fellow passengers and caused the airline to incur tremendous financial expenses. This is very serious matter and he should be consequenced in the following manner:

1)He should be labeled a threat to air travel and banned from Delta and other Airlines
2)Charges should filed in the Guyana courts on behalf of the passengers
3)He should be made to pay financial compensation to the airline for the expenses he caused

Furthermore, I hope his passport was ceized by the Guyana police to prevent him from leaving the country.

    • The On-Looker UNITED STATES says:

So far this is what I know he’s going to be banned from flying Delta, also other carriers will be hesitant in issuing him a ticket to fly with them. I guess it’s boat here on out for this dude.

  3. jacqui SAINT LUCIA says:

Please explain to me why victims names are published in your article, but someone opens the emergency exit of an aircraft , risking the lives on all onboard, but his name is not published?

    • BADLALL CANADA says:

Only certain Guyanese names and pictures are published …he was in first class so he may be a big one…can’t upset him by publishing his name.

    • Evan CANADA says:

That is a very fair question. he was a first class passenger, that’s why. A first class jackass I would say. He should be banned from ever putting food on an aircraft again. By his arrogance and stupidity he has shown that he is a hazzard to public safety and no regard for human life.

    • billp CANADA says:

It seems this passenger is well connected. First his name dos’nt get mentioned, then he was granted station bail.Such serious offence should’ve gone through the courts, and let the court decide if it’s a bailable offence. This is a very serious offence as he could’ve endangered the live’s of so many other innocent passengers.

  4. La vie est bonne! CANADA says:

If the passenger was intoxicated… the question is… Did the airline serve him alcohol? If, so the airline is partially responsible for this saga.

Airlines have to be prudent when serving alcohol on board to passengers.

  5. Incognegro UNITED STATES says:

Funny, but all he should get is a good thumping at the police station. They seem to learn their lesson after those beatings.

  6. BOEING777 CANADA says:

As La Vie indicated, if Delta served alcohol to the passenger whom became intoxicated, Delta must share the blame. However, this is not going to happen.

Perhaps Delta’s flight attendants need to be trained properly in the serving of alcohol.

    • The On-Looker UNITED STATES says:

I hate to disagree with you here, but this man seems to be a piece of work. Hey he believed since he’s on Guyana soil he can do whatever he pleases i.e open the plane door. I’ve flown FC many times and I can tell you first hand about some of them behavior.

    • Berkeley Van Bowen CANADA says:

I strongly disagree with your assessment that the airline is responsible for this passenger’s asinine behavior.

The amount of alcohol it takes to render a person intoxicated varies in each individual. Therefore, each adult passenger should know their limit and cease drinking when they feel inebriated.

    • THRUSTT UNITED STATES says:

BOEING777, AS IN A PREVIOUS ARTICLE REGARDING JUNGLE JIM, YOU SEEM TO BE BLATANTLY IGNORANT OF THE POINTS THAT PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO MAKE. YOU TALK ABOUT PEOPLE MAKING UP RULES FOR THE AIRLINES NOW, YES IT IS TRUE THAT THE AIRLINES HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY WHEN TO CUT THE ALCOHOL OFF, BUT IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE, THIS PERSON WAS JUST TOTALLY BEING FOOLISH, WHEREAS IT IS OBVIOUS THAT DELTA WAS NOT AT FAULT. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE THERE TO FIGURE THAT ONE OUT. I WONDER SOMETIMES ABOUT YOUR COMMENTS, ARE YOU REALLY A 777 PILOT? I HAVE BEEN FLYING FOR 22 YEARS NOW, AND AM STILL FLYING PROFESSIONALLY AND SOMETIMES THE RULES OR THE CHECKLIST HAS TO BE PUT ASIDE, AND COMMON SENSE AND LOGIC APPLIED.

  7. COSMIKE CANADA says:

I Understand That The Passenger In Question Is The Son Of A Gas Station Owner Who Recently Passed Away (”Sorry To Hear That”) But Even If He Was The Queen’s Son It Does’nt Make It Okay For Him To Behave Like An Idiot With Total Disregard For All The Other Passengers And Flight Crew Respectively, I Think That He Should Face Some Sort Of Penalty

    • Dinstinct UNITED STATES says:

If this same flight was landed at JFK you think this IDIOT would be out on station bail???? God bless America !! We finally get a US airline to start going there and these Fools do not appreciate.

  8. mrahaman UNITED STATES says:

What is the man’s name who caused all the ruckus by opening the door?
Ban alcohol an all flights. Many Guyanese drink too much rum to begin with.

I do not think that the man could be banned from future flights, but the man should be made to repay all expenses caused to Delta Airlines for tis incident and compensation to each passenger delayed by his actions and all court costs and expenses incurred by the police because of his actions.

Now, what is this man’s name?

    • buxton_man UNITED STATES says:

Ban alcohol on all flights? How? Even if they stop selling, remember the passengers have the duty-free allowance of 2 bottles. That’s enough to get a group of friends wasted.

  9. opgy CANADA says:

SN – why are you and the rest of your compatriots so loathe to printing this man’s name. Is there some media blackout on this person??

This is highly irregular to see a man released on bail but you can’t name him – Guyana too small a place anyway – we’ll know soon eneough.

But most are correct, if the sensationlist news people is correct, dah man been drinkin since before he get on deh plane an he bought more pun deh plane and was quite a singer as well it seems.

Delta shoulda land in PR and let him off deh.

    • addy UNITED STATES says:

Well that would’ve cost more than what they have to pay for fixing the door. The landing fees and extra fuel etc would be more than the $20,000 they have to pay for fixing the door.

  10. Pilatus-PC12 CANADA says:

I agree with the first blogger and I find the perception that Delta served him too much booze difficult to acknowledge. Flight crews are trained to observe passengers especially those that are consuming alcohol to ensure they are not too inebriated.

    H

    • BOEING777 CANADA says:

Read the article in KN today. It clearly states from eye witnesses that this passenger was in a drunken stupor… yet the flight attendants kept serving him alcohol. He kept throwing the empty liquor bottles over his head. Obviously both ariline and passenger should equally be blamed.
