The rehabilitation of the damaged water transmission main which has been causing low water pressure in the city will start today and be completed in a week, the  Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) said.

In a press statement GWI said that H. Nauth and Sons Contracting Company was hired to replace over 500 feet of the transmission main. Works will commence today in the vicinity of Vlissengen Road  between North Road and Regent Street.

A rupture was discovered on a section of an old water transmission main in the Botanical Gardens, Vlissengen Road area by GWI on June 12 and emergency repairs were carried out. However, it was further discovered that other sections of the main were severely damaged, GWI said, and the company was forced to stop distribution from that main.

The distribution was diverted to another main which serves other areas so customers in Lodge, Wortmanville, North East La Penitence and other surrounding areas received lower water pressure. GWI has apologised to all its customers who have been affected and assured that they are working to rectify the problem.
