Unity woman in  fear after resident fires at house

A Unity woman says that she fears for her life after a near-by resident boiling with rage, discharged rounds at her home on Tuesday night before threatening to kill her and the rest of her family.

The man who owns a small ice factory at his home had reportedly accused the woman, Raywattie Sukprasad of gossiping about his wife with a neighbour.

While the police at the Mahaica Police Station were made aware of the incident yesterday morning, ranks have been unable to apprehend the shooter. He has apparently fled the area and several visits to his home by ranks failed to locate him.

Several efforts by this newspaper to make contact with him were unsuccessful and up to press time last evening there was no police release on the incident.

A frightened Sukprasad speaking from her home located at Factory Road, Unity, Mahaica said that the resident stood in front of her house around 6 pm using a series of expletives before firing about six rounds into her yard.

Providing a reason for the attack, the woman said that a neighbour and the man’s wife are not on speaking terms.

“He accused me of siding with de neighbour and talking he wife name”, she said.

Sukprasad informed Stabroek News that he was always in the habit of cursing and she had cause to file a report against him about one year ago. On that occasion she said that the man was warned even though he denied any wrongdoing.

The woman said that she had wanted to report the matter the very night but encountered some transportation difficulties.

Yesterday morning, she said two spent shells were found in the vicinity of her yard and they have been handed over to the police. There was no damage to her house.

The woman said that she is afraid because ”he threatened to kill me daughta-in-law and me children anytime we come out of de house”, adding that “I trembling right now. Since last night (Tuesday) I can’t sleep”.

To further complicate things, the woman said her fellow villagers are refusing to speak and signalled that they may also be afraid to come forward.

Another gunman flee. That was serious gossip, ah wonder if she talk bout he an say it was ‘nothing big’ an he get vex an shoot up she ouse. Seriously though, I thought that prior to issuing a gun licence, back ground checks would have been made to ensure that incidents such as this do not occur. This seem like a clear abuse and intimidation by a person possesing a firearm. Ice maker with a gun, other major businesspersons without, special iceman indeed. Look at recent happenings….Minister at a bar with gun, magistrate shoot cop, finema…. no I dont think he have a licence, the saga continues.

Regardless of whose brotherinlaw Icemaker is he shouldn’t have the right to discharge a firearm under the reported circumstances. It also sounds like the nearby residents are not willing to give assistance in the investigation/prosecution process! Sad indeed!!

These are the same men when the Bandits attack them they end up giving up their money and gun without firing a shot .it is easy to fire at someone when you are the only one with a gun ,the police need to make him an example.
