Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on Tuesday granted $75,000 bail to a 29-year-old chain snatcher when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Troy Ames of 41 Middle Street, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara is accused of snatching a chain from Orlando Curtin on July 26 at the junction of Regent and King streets.

Curtin told the court that he was walking east along Regent Street and when he reached King Street he saw some young men standing at the corner. One of them walked up to him, snatched his chain and started running into King Street. The man said he quickly gave chase and as he was running a man in a dark-coloured car stopped and on hearing of the alleged theft chased Ames into Church Street where he was apprehended.

Ames sustained injuries to his head and face which the prosecution said he received when he attempted to escaped from “some” window.
He was ordered to appear at Court Two on September 5.
