Magistrate Nigel Hawke on Thursday remanded to prison a man accused of stealing almost $300,000 worth of jewellery.

Gerald Ward was not required to plead to the charge of burglary when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that between August 1 and 2 in Georgetown; Ward stole from the house of Eshwar Tharudin a quantity of gold, diamond and costume jewellery together worth $297,000.

The prosecution objected to bail and Ward was remanded.

He was ordered to appear at court on August 29.
