Permission must be sought from and granted by the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) for the placement of any posters, flyers or banners on its poles and legal action will be taken against those infringing this, the electricity company has stated.

The power company, in a press release said that it has observed that many of its utility poles are being illegally utilized by persons placing advertisements for various fund-raising events. It noted that the practice is illegal and called for the immediate halting of this practice.

“GPL wishes to make it very clear that all of its network structures are the property of the company. This makes them private property. Anyone found erecting anything on these poles will be dealt with severely by the law. Any posters, flyers or banners found on any of our utility poles, will result in the person or persons responsible for the particular infraction being punished by law,” the release declared.

The GPL should be concerned about other matters that are of more importance. A relative of mine had a new meter installed on his property, the meter was not functioning properly and he made several complaints to the GPL office, a technician inspected it once and said it was fine, in the mean time the bill was paid every month. Last month the GPL sent a bill of 173.000 guy dollars and said that they were undercharging and this is the actual bill, when the bill was not paid at the end of July they disconnected the electricity….now tell me where is someone who earns a 1/4 of this amount suppose to pay this bill.
My question was, whose fault was this?
The clerk responded,”well we can’t force yall to pay”.
